The OrangOrang Project
Sprouted in Canada and now rooted in Indonesia, OrangOrang designs and produces socially responsible fashion. We believe a better future can be made available to the world by enhancing the well being of the small communities in developing countries. Coupling traditional knowledge and modern taste with the use of organic fabrics and dyes allows us to create beautiful products with a purpose. Our guide line is the concept of sustainable development, which encompasses both environmental and social consciousness throughout each step of the supply chain.
We beleive a business can make such a difference in both the lives of people and the protection of the environment. Our goal is to show that this can be done at the same time as both growing in a sustainable way and attaining economic success. With us, you can make a difference too!
All the dyes we use are made from the little treasures and traditional knowledge offered by Indonesia's rich vegetation and history. Currently, most common industrial dyes are toxic both for you and for the environment. This is even more so in developing countries where the safety and environmental protection laws are often non-existent. All of the fabrics used are certified organic and fairly traded. You are making a difference in the lives of many by chosing to make purchases from us and other projects like ours. Please click on the SHOP column to view our 2009/2010 collection.
OrangOrang + YKPA
OrangOrang works hand in hand with the NGO Yayasan Kasih Peduli Anak (YKPA).
YKPA works with street children in Bali and has an open a home for them. However, giving this chance to street children is not the answer to stopping the increase of them in the street, nor will it help them long term. Instead, we need to work at the root of the problem: the requirement for transferable skills in order for them to become financially independent and able to provide financial resources for them, their families and their villages in a sustainable and healthy way. Thus, we are using OrangOrang products to create opportunities for the children as they grow into young adults and seek to pursue their own dreams. The skills training and schooling they receive will not only alleviate long term poverty for them and their families, but aims to reduce the exodus of children and women from their villages and into the cities where they are forced to beg or work in the sex industry. Lastly, a percentage of our sales goes directly to the YKPA. So when you buy our products, you make a real difference!
